The keffiyeh, traditionally worn in the Middle East, features a distinctive black-and-white checkered pattern symbolizing resilience and the connection to the land.  Often adorned with olive leaves, representing peace and hertiage, it has become a powerful symbol of Palestinian identity and resistance.  Beyond its cultural roots, the keffiyeh is now embraced globally as a statement of solidarity and unity.  Can be worn on the head or around the neck, the keffiyeh is both functional as an accessory and a meaningful statement piece.

This traditional keffiyeh is made by a Palestinian factory that has its origins in Jericho before fleeing the 1948 Nakba and reopening in Jordan. It was among the first factories in Palestine in its day and has been making Palestinian keffiyehs for decades.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a keffiyeh?

A keffiyeh — also written kufiya or hatta — is a traditional Palestinian cotton scarf, usually woven in a distinctive black-and-white or red-and-white check pattern. It has been worn across the Levant for centuries, originally as practical protection against sun and dust. Today the keffiyeh is one of the most recognised symbols of Palestinian identity, resistance and cultural pride. Every pattern has regional roots: the fishnet design represents fishing communities and trade, while the bold lines evoke olive branches and trade routes across the land.

Are your products authentic?

Yes — every product we sell is Palestine made supporting Palestinian artisans. We work directly with cooperatives, family workshops and individual craftspeople, most of them women, across the West Bank. We pay fair prices, maintain direct relationships, and never source through middlemen. When you buy from Handmade Palestine, your money goes directly to the person who made it and into the local economy.

Where are your products made?

Our products are made in Palestine — primarily in the West Bank, including Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus, Hebron and surrounding villages. Our tatreez embroidery was inspired by women in Gaza and whilst that proud lineage of artisans have been forcibly disrupted by occupational forces, we have expanded our engagement of Palestinian women through supporting the establishment of collectives such as Manjel Ma’qoud for tatreez, Little Olea and Shahed for olive woods and oils. Our keffiyehs are woven at the one of the Palestinian keffiyeh factories. We are transparent about where each piece comes from, and we encourage you to read the stories of our artisans on the Our Artisans page here.
