The True Meaning of Easter

Easter is a time of hope, light, and renewal. It’s a celebration that began right here — in Palestine — the land of the first Christians.

But this year, Easter arrives in a time of deep pain for our people. The war on Gaza has taken tens of thousands of lives. Families are grieving. Communities have been destroyed. In the West Bank, military occupation, home demolitions, settler violence, and movement restrictions continue to shape daily life.

And yet — in the face of it all — Palestinian Christians still gather to pray. We light candles. We sing. We remember. Because Easter is also about resilience. It’s about believing that even in our darkest moments, light will return.

A Living Faith

The Christian community in Palestine is small, but deeply rooted. These are the descendants of the first followers of Jesus — still here, still holding onto their faith and traditions despite immense hardship. Their presence is a reminder that Christianity is not just a story from the past. It is alive — and it’s Palestinian.

But that presence is under threat. Economic collapse, violence, and displacement are pushing many families to the edge. In Gaza, entire Christian communities have been wiped out. In the West Bank, even getting to church can be a challenge. And still, they hold on.

What Hope Looks Like

At Handmade Palestine, we see hope in the hands of women weaving, embroidering, and preserving their heritage. We see it in farmers planting olive trees, and in artisans carving beauty from stone and wood.

Hope here is not abstract. It’s handmade. It’s passed from one generation to the next — through stories, stitches, and soil.

A Message to the World

If you're celebrating Easter, let it be more than a holiday. Let it be a reminder that faith means standing with those who suffer. That renewal is not just personal — it’s collective.
