All About 7 Spice: How to Use It + Recipe, Our Final Sale Days & US Tour
If you’ve ever ordered one of our Ramadan Gift Boxes or quarterly subscription boxes, you may have come across a little packet of locally made Palestinian 7 spice. It’s one of those ingredients that might look simple, but once you start using it, you’ll wonder how you ever cooked without it.
So, what is 7 spice?
As the name suggests, 7 spice is a blend of seven different spices. There are different variations depending on the region and the person making it, but the blend we love from Palestine is made with cinnamon, black pepper, allspice, coriander, cloves, cardamom, and nutmeg (or sometimes ginger). The result is a beautifully warming, aromatic blend — slightly sweet from the cinnamon and cardamom, with the earthy warmth of allspice and cloves and a little peppery kick. It’s particularly delicious as a marinade for chicken or beef, but there are so many ways you can use it.

How can you use 7 spice?
One of the easiest ways is to make a simple marinade. Mix 7 spice with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and a little salt, then add your chicken or beef.
Leave it to marinate for as long as you have time — even 30 minutes will add lots of flavour. You can also add it to kofta or meatballs, stir it through rice, sprinkle it over roasted vegetables or potatoes, or add a little to soups and stews.
It’s a great spice blend to have on hand when you want to add lots of flavour without having to reach for ten different jars!
Looking for a recipe?
One of our favourite food bloggers, Fufu’s Kitchen, has some lovely recipes that use the flavours of the region.

A little taste of Palestine
We love including things like 7 spice in our boxes because they’re small, everyday reminders of Palestine. Spices, food and cooking are such an important part of Palestinian life and culture. Sharing these ingredients means you can bring a little of that into your own kitchen — whether you’re making a family meal, trying a new recipe or simply adding a pinch of something extra to dinner.
