Living Roots: Putting Down Deeper Roots 🌿
If you’ve been following us for a while, you may have heard us talk about Living Roots. We’re excited to share a little more about what this means for our work—and how you can be part of it.
Living Roots Palestine
Living Roots is the nonprofit we created to support work that has grown alongside Handmade Palestine: protecting land, planting trees, supporting Palestinian communities, preserving cultural heritage, and creating meaningful, long-term projects in Palestine.
We’re now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means people in the U.S. can make tax-deductible donations to support this work. For us, this is about putting down deeper roots.
So, what does this mean?
Handmade Palestine has always been about more than selling crafts. We believe supporting Palestinian artisans also means supporting the people, traditions, landscapes, and communities behind the work.
That has naturally grown into projects like our partnership with Mashjar Juthour, a Palestinian nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting nature, planting trees, conserving heritage landscapes, and connecting people with the land.
There is exciting work ahead, too. Mashjar Juthour recently signed a 30-year agreement with the Ramallah Municipality to transform the land into the first city botanical garden in Palestine. This is work that takes time. And it takes all of us. Every little bit helps 🌱
Living Roots being a 501(c)(3) means there are now more ways to participate. Read more: https://livingrootspalestine.org
- You can give monthly - small monthly gifts provide consistency and help us plan for the long term.
- If monthly giving isn’t possible, that’s okay. A one-time gift helps.
- Sharing our work helps.
- Telling a friend helps.

Our Adopt an Olive Tree program is moving, too 🫒
Many of you know and love our Adopt an Olive Tree program. We’re excited to be moving this initiative under the Living Roots umbrella.
When you adopt an olive tree at Mashjar Juthour, you’re helping care for that tree throughout the year—from pruning and fertilizing to harvesting. After the harvest, adopters receive olive oil and traditionally fermented olives from their tree.
You aren’t just buying olive oil. You’re helping care for a tree—and that tree is part of a much bigger landscape, history, and future. https://handmadepalestine.com/products/adopt-an-olive-tree-in-palestine

Handmade Palestine will continue working with Palestinian artisans, sharing their beautiful work, and creating connections through handmade goods and storytelling.
Living Roots gives us another way to nurture what makes that work possible—land, trees, culture, community, and the people caring for them.
There is something powerful about choosing to plant something.
A tree. A tradition. A relationship. A future.
Thank you for being part of ours.
