Our Impact in 2024: A Year of Resilience and Growth

Together, we’ve made an incredible impact in lives in Palestine! This past year, Handmade Palestine has grown in ways we never imagined, all thanks to you—our community of supporters who believe in the power of fair trade, cultural preservation, and artisan empowerment.

Our Collective Impact

• Sales Growth: We saw an astounding 89% increase in total sales from 2023 to 2024! Every purchase has directly supported Palestinian artisans and their families.

• Artisans Supported: This year, we proudly partnered with over 600 artisans across 30 artisan brands, cooperatives, and workshops—a major leap in our impact despite the many challenges on the ground.

• Cultural Reach: More than 371,000 people from around the world engaged with Handmade Palestine’s website, sharing in the beauty and resilience of Palestinian craftsmanship.

• Supporting Land: We raised money through the Adopt an Olive Tree program and by donating profits to fully fund Mashjar Juthour's wildlife water rehabilitation project and tree planting program.

Supporting Artisans, Strengthening Communities

• 78% of our artisans are women, many of whom are the sole providers for their families. Through Handmade Palestine, they’ve gained financial independence and stability.

• Refugee artisans have found steady work through our fair trade partnerships, ensuring they have a reliable source of income in an increasingly unstable economy.

• We launched subscription boxes in December 2023, providing immediate support to artisans who urgently needed help.

• Our partnerships extend beyond artisans—we also strengthen the local economy by working closely with Palestinian-run print shops, box makers, and shipping services.

Stories of Impact

• One of our artisans was able to buy land in her village for the first time in her life, a huge accomplishment for a woman, thereby securing a future for herself and her family through the income she generated with Handmade Palestine.

• Another woman, a project manager for an artisan group, came to us with a dream. With our support, she launched her own artisan collective, creating jobs for 10 more Palestinian artisans.

• We provided a grant to the Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society which enabled them to hire artisans with disabilities, giving those artisans dignified work and financial independence.

Overcoming Challenges Together

2024 has been a year of both incredible achievements and immense struggles. The genocide in Gaza and the intensifying occupation have made artisan work more difficult than ever.

• Shipping obstacles: Blockades and restrictions doubled shipping costs and delayed orders, yet we persisted—ensuring artisans could still reach international customers.

• Banking barriers: Transferring money into Palestine has become nearly impossible, but we found alternative ways to ensure artisans got paid.

• Material shortages: Many artisans struggled to access raw materials due to closures, so we worked creatively to support them with new product designs and sourcing solutions.

Yet, despite these challenges, the spirit of Palestinian artisans endures. Every handmade piece tells a story of resilience, tradition, and hope—and with your support, these stories continue.

Looking Ahead

In 2025, we’re committed to expanding our artisan network, creating new, innovative products, strengthening global partnerships, and furthering sustainability efforts—including shipping by sea to reduce our carbon footprint. We’ll be moving into a proper warehouse for fulfillment, allowing us to invite volunteers in the Portland area of the United States to help in supporting our artisans. It’ll also mean that you’ll see more gift sets that allow you to support more artisans in one purchase!
